Do you have an ink dependence? I can help...

Lamy Petrol

7/6/17

This is one of those limited edition inks that came and went very quickly. I was lucky enough to get a bottle from a local vendor (Crazy Alan's Emporium) when the first (and maybe only?) wave of the ink went out to vendors. You might be able to find some online, but your best bet might be a smaller local vendor if you have one.

The matching Lamy Safari is still available, but I think they made far more of those than the ink. I still haven't gotten one, but I'll probably pick one up at the DC show if they're still available. I don't need another Safari, but I do like the matte finish on this pen.

Petrol is an interesting ink. It's a super-dark blue-green that can easily pass as a black ink under most circumstances. It's got some shading (on the right paper and with the right nib) and some sheen (same caveats). There are some other inks that are a fairly close approximation, but they're all a bit more expensive than Petrol.  Look for those further down in the post.

I just published a tutorial on how to make these, if you're curious. It's fun and easy!

You're going to get a lot of smear from this ink when you get it wet, but you should also have plenty of text left over in a darker green color. Maybe cool for some artistic purposes?

Is this the Lamy T52 Bottle Ink Petroleum (50ml)?

As far as I know, it's just called "Petrol", but yes.

I am going off of google translate so that maybe why it copied as petroleum. I am looking at pairing it with their fountain pen, were you able to pick one up at the DC show?

I am new to Lamy and the safari line how do they write in your honest opinion?

Ah, yeah, that'll do it. The pen is really nice, actually. I forgot to get one, but they're not in short supply, so I should still be able to get one. I think they're good pens. Maybe a little light for me, but they always look good and the matte ones are especially cool. The nibs can vary, but they're generally just fine. A little on the dry side, perhaps? Nothing major. I got my wife one for her first pen a long while back, and they're lots of people's first stop on the fountain pen track.

This ink is amazing. It has a rich hue that's beautiful and unlike anything I've used before. It is definitely one of the rarer, perhaps more sought-after inks out there. If you have a hard time finding it online, try looking at a local vendor. Crazy Alan's Emporium was able to get a few bottles in, and you might be able to find them there or somewhere else close. The narrative could include personal experiences or testimonials from users, sharing anecdotes of how Lamy Petrol ink enhances writing, journaling, sketching, or calligraphy endeavors. It may also touch upon the ink's popularity in the fountain pen community and the enthusiastic reception it has received among collectors and aficionados.
